Purpose of Player Evaluations
To obtain an accurate height measurement on player
To allow children the fun experience of rotating stations and to provide an introduction to the basketball season.
To allow WYSC coaches the opportunity to then review the children's ratings, height, and experience during the player placement. Again, this gives WYSC the opportunity to spread out the ability levels amongst all the teams;
To allow WYSC to assign a suggested position for each player
To allow WYSC to assign a "rating" to each child following a series of rotating stations (shooting, dribbling, foul shots, etc.) in an effort to keep teams as evenly matched as possible
Attendance to an Evaluation is mandatory for children 9 and over.
If your child does not attend the evaluations, they will not be part of the draft and will therefore be placed on the team of WYSC's choosing. No team preference requests are accepted. WYSC's placement will be based on which team needs players after the drafted players are chosen.
Evaluation Rules and Process
No late arrivals. Once the evaluation starts, the gym doors will be closed since the rotation and line-up will have already begun.
Time slots for evaluations will be 45 minutes in length.
Time slots will be broken up by age groups. For example, 9-10 boys will tryout at the same time as 9-10 girls.
Players will receive a sticker to wear with a number on it when they check in. This will make it easier for the evaluators to identify players
Evaluators who are coaches will evaluate outside of the age division in which they are coaching.
Players who want to play up a division need to come to the evaluation time slot for their actual age, but let the evaluators know their intention to play up. Evaluators can they make a recommendation on playing up.
